In Memoriam: Mr Roshal Lal Piplani, former Secretary to the NTICVA

It is with great sadness that we report the death on 4 January 2016 of Mr  Roshan Lal Piplani, who was Secretary to the NTICVA from its founding in 1989 to his retirement in 2014.

Mr Piplani gave twenty-five years of dedicated service to the NTICVA. As many of our award holders will be aware, he had become the face of the Trust, the person to whom generations of award holders would turn with their requests for information and advice. He always welcomed award holders and prospective candidates to his office, and took great pleasure making occasional visits to different parts of India where he met scholars and curators who had benefited from awards.

Mr Piplani had been a public servant for over 72 years, in a career which started at the age of 16, firstly in service to the British Government of India (in the North West Frontier Provinces prior to independence), to the Maharaja of Bikaner,  to the Government of India over many years, to the Nehru Trust for Cambridge University, and also to the NTICVA.

We send our deepest sympathies to his family.
